The theme for our virtual conference Opening Gates in Teacher
Education is the issue of Theory-Practice.
In teacher
education, setting up a curriculum, designing a course, writing
a syllabus lead us - the faculty - to contend with questions surrounding
this issue. In every discipline, in every area of teacher education,
we are faced with having to deal with the balance of theory and
practice.
Often, the
kinds of questions we ask ourselves are like the following:
 |
Do we
need theory, do we need practice? |
 |
How much
theory, how much practice? |
 |
How do
we balance the two, if at all? |
 |
Does
theory stem from practice? |
 |
Can practice
lead to a theory? |
 |
Do we
have to teach theory in order to effect good practice? |
 |
Can we
teach theory without leaving room for practice? |
 |
Can we
work with practice devoid of theory? |
In
your presentation, relate to this issue by dealing with any of
the questions on the list or others that are relevant to you in
your field or discipline.
Have a look
at the Topics of our conference and
see where you can fit your ideas in. Then move on to the Presentation
Formats, find the one which is most appropriate, and Submit
a Proposal.
