The presentation formats for Opening Gates in Teacher Education offer presenters and participants the opportunity to take advantage of the different media on the Internet. In addition to keynote speakers who will be broadcast through video, participants can present papers, posters, run or join in on a panel or roundtable, run a forum discussion for the three days of the conference or give a practical workshop.

Initially, you are requested to submit a short proposal of up to 250 words describing your presentation. Upon notification that your proposal has been accepted, you will be asked to submit the presentation through the Internet for posting on the site.

The presentations will be available for viewing to registered participants from about 2-3 weeks before the conference so that you can prepare yourselves for meeting with the presenters and other colleagues.

Articles - Papers
A paper describes a practical or theoretical approach to work that the presenter has undertaken. The paper should be from about 3 pages to maximum 12 (double-spaced). We especially welcome hyperlinked papers which use both Internet resource material and links within the paper. In addition to the paper being published on our conference site, the presenter will be allotted a 55-minute time slot in a chat room for discussion during the conference.

Posters
A poster - using PowerPoint (or a similar Internet-compatible program) with hyperlinks - demonstrates a study, experiment, project, curriculum materials etc. The poster will remain on the site, in the same way as the articles, and the creator will demonstrate the poster for 30 minutes through a MOO or chat program during the conference.

Guided tour of your Internet site
A guided tour of your Internet site demonstrates to the participants how you use it in your classroom. Your proposal describes who your site will interest and why. We will suggest software that you and the participants download before the conference in order to take part in the synchronous tour. Such a tour can take up to 45 minutes during the conference.

Panel
A panel consists of 3-4 presenters each of whom will have a different perspective on a particular issue. The main idea of the panel will be to examine different viewpoints around a particular issue. The proposer of the panel will submit, in the proposal, a controversial subject, detailing the problem and the various angles. Other members for the panel can be suggested by the proposer and/or will be located by the conference organizers. The time slot for a panel is 55 minutes, it is synchronous and will take place in a chat room during the conference.

Symposium (Roundtable discussion)
A symposium consists of 3-4 participants. The main idea of the symposium is to have an in-depth discussion about an idea, approach etc. In your proposal, write about the topic you would like to moderate as well as your personal qualifications. The proposer of the symposium can suggest other participants and/or they will be located by the conference organizers. Before the conference, the main presenter will send his article or paper to the other participants so that the in-depth discussion around the ideas in the paper can be prepared by all. The time slot for a panel is 55 minutes, it is synchronous and will take place in a chat room during the conference.

Forum moderator
A forum moderator suggests a topic/question/problem which s/he will moderate asynchronously through a forum (webboard) for the three days of the conference. In your proposal, write about the topic you would like to moderate as well as your personal qualifications during the conference.

Online workshop
An online (synchronous) workshop before or during the virtual conference offers participants an opportunity to study a specific topic online. These workshops can be enrichment sessions in a subject that is related to teacher education, for example "Diaries from the Holocaust period" where participants read extracts, discuss different perspectives and relate to the teacher training classroom as directed by the online instructor. Another possibility could be a "hands-on" workshop where the participants learn a procedure, software or the like.

Your proposal should reflect what you plan to do during the workshop and what software is necessary for the participants. A workshop can take from an hour and a half to three hours.
